At Christ's Table
The Crossings (2012)By William Furioso
We must interpret the Old Testament in light of the New Testament – particularly with regards to typology. The Old Testament types speak of the “mystery of Christ” through symbolic shadows as it were. “Things which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.” (Colossians 2:17) The New Testament teachings unveil the mystery of Christ. But both the Old and the New Testaments were given for the primary purpose of revealing Christ. Knowing that principle helps to insure proper interpretation of the Old Testament. And it is in that light that we consider The Crossing of the Red Sea and The Crossing of the Jordan River – looking for the unveiling of the mystery of Christ.
